Ruthie Brand

My name is Ruthie Brand and I am so excited to join the First Addition community. I love teaching students of any age, but I particularly love discussing great literature with high school students. I also enjoy helping students learn to ask great questions in order to think deeply about the big ideas men have contemplated throughout the ages. I graduated from Cornerstone University in 1994 with a Communications major and English minor and have taught in a variety of settings from the inner city, church classrooms, Christian schools, and homeschooling my own children. 

Garry and I have 4 children. Our oldest, Trevor, is a Marine living in Okinawa. We have a daughter, Ellie, who lives at home and works at the Hudsonville Meijer, and our two school-aged kids, Alex and Ian, will be attending First Addition this fall. We have lived in Hudsonville for 17 years but are saying goodbye to the Salad Bowl of West Michigan as we work on building a new home in West Olive. We love West Michigan and we are eager to live near the lakeshore. Outside of teaching, my hobbies include walking with my husband, camping with my family, enjoying a meal with friends, and reading great books!
