Hello everyone! I am looking forward to being a part of FA this year to have the opportunity to teach literature, writing, and grammar in light of God’s word. I love teaching literature because of the critical and creative thinking processes that occur, along with connecting ideas into meaningful written work. I also enjoy blending in theater arts and hands-on activities whenever possible, making learning fun and appealing to different types of learners.
I grew up mostly in Iowa, and hold a K-8 education degree from Calvin College with a Language Arts Endorsement. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to teach language arts in several Christian schools and home school organizations on the east coast and Michigan. I also founded and directed a homeschool theater company for 14 years, with a focus on bringing classic literature to life on stage. I currently teach speech and drama classes part-time for a local Christian school.
My husband Brian and I homeschooled our own four precious children for 15 exciting, eclectic, energy-filled years. Now that our youngest is almost through with college, we are looking forward to our next adventure as empty nesters here in Holland.
I have so many interests, but I especially love spending time along the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan –hiking, swimming, and reading. I am always up for attending a local theater production and especially enjoy deep conversations with old and new friends over a good cup of coffee.
